Ultra-fine Nano powders and Sintering Processes

In Advanced Ceramics, Prof. Mukhopadhyay covered ultra-fine or nano sized powders. Agglomeration issues related to these and methods of powder processing to ensure that the non-uniformity caused by agglomerates are countered. Freeze drying and supercritical drying was described to remove aqueous solution after ball milling or ultrasonification, without re-agglomeration. Sintering was also discussed, with an aim to go towards pressure induced sintering or liquid phase sintering. Next class will be by a world leader in Ceramic coatings technology.
