Course Overview
- Prof. Dipendra Prasad is taking this course at an advanced graduate level. He taught Differential Topology last sem which followed Victor Guilleman and Pollack’s book. That background may help but is not necessary for this course.
- References are standard- David Mumford’s The Red Book of Varieties and Schemes and for background in Commutative Algebra, refer to Atiyah and Macdonald’s Introduction to Commutative Algebra
- Ring (taken to be commutative by default), Ideal Theory will be used heavily.
Algebraic Varieties
- Affine Varieties
- Projective Varieties:
- Zariski Topology: Illustrated by examples in \(\mathbb{R}\) and \(\mathbb{Z}\). Also note that this topology is not Hausdorff.
- Touched upon the notion of sheaves.
- Lecture Notes can be found on upcoming posts Som Phene Log Tag Algebraic Geometry
